Tempus AI, Inc. (NASDAQ: TEM) has launched olivia, an AI-enabled app designed to help patients organize and manage their health data while navigating the complexities of modern healthcare.

The olivia app addresses the organizational and informational burdens that patients and their families face, particularly in cases involving chronic or serious illness. It aggregates health records from multiple sources, such as electronic health records (EHRs), wearable devices, and manual uploads. Users can access lab results, imaging reports, visit summaries, and DICOM images, all organized into a clear timeline. The app’s AI capabilities allow patients to query their health data, receive summaries, and access external resources like clinicaltrials.gov.

Key features of the app include:

  • Centralized Data Management: Consolidates records from EHRs, devices, and manual uploads.
  • AI Queries and Summaries: Answers questions about health records and provides concise insights.
  • Smart Profile Summary: Creates a unified view of clinical diagnoses, medications, family history, and care team details.
  • Appointment Tools: Offers transcriptions and summaries of doctor visits.
  • Health Monitoring: Tracks symptoms, medications, and wellness metrics by integrating with platforms like Apple Health and Google Fit.
  • Medical Imaging: Uploads, views, and shares DICOM images via a browser-native platform.
  • Seamless Data Sharing: Ensures data is easily accessible for patients and their healthcare providers.

Lefkofsky founded Tempus in 2015, driven by the urgent need to improve patient care using data and AI. One pivotal story behind the company and the app is that of Olivia, a 19-year-old friend of Lefkofsky’s daughter. Diagnosed with cancer, Olivia faced the challenges common to many patients: complex treatment protocols, mounting medical information, and the emotional toll on loved ones who stepped in as caregivers. Despite the family’s unwavering efforts, Olivia’s aggressive cancer ultimately claimed her life in late 2021.

The app reflects lessons learned from Olivia’s experience, addressing gaps in the healthcare system where patients often become intermediaries between specialists, research developments, and treatment plans. With olivia, users can better coordinate their care and ensure their health data is readily available, empowering them to focus on treatment and recovery.

Lefkofsky notes that cancer remains a formidable challenge, requiring collaboration across healthcare sectors and harnessing data to improve decisions and accelerate research. Through olivia, Tempus aims to lighten the burden on patients, allowing them to access critical information and manage their care more effectively. The app is now available on iOS and Android platforms.
