Lupa Raises $4M to Modernize Veterinary Care with AI
Lupa, a London-based startup developing an AI-powered veterinary operating system, has raised $4 million in seed funding from investors including firstminute capital, 2100 Ventures, and Exor Ventures. Other investors include top McKinsey, BCG, JP Morgan, Nexi, and NovaCapital angels.
The funds will support product development and expansion efforts to address growing demand in the veterinary sector caused by a 36% increase in pet ownership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The veterinary industry is facing significant challenges, including a shortage of qualified veterinarians and outdated practice management systems. Current solutions leave only 11% of UK veterinarians satisfied, with many spending 10-20 hours weekly on administrative tasks.

Co-founders Nicolò Frisiani and Matei Bjola, both formerly of Boston Consulting Group, and Raul Lozano Martin, previously at Meta, have assembled a talented group of engineers from top-tier companies such as Google, Amazon, and Palantir.
Lupa’s AI-powered Veterinary Operating System (VOS) is designed to address these issues by integrating intelligent automation, clinical decision support, and user-friendly tools. The platform was developed to reduce administrative burdens while enhancing the efficiency of veterinary practices.
The VOS is built around several core pillars:
-
AI Co-Pilot: A smart assistant named Jerry provides diagnostic suggestions, operational insights, and automated communication with pet owners. This feature supports veterinarians in their decision-making processes while reducing time spent on routine tasks.
-
Lupa Notes: An AI-powered scribe that automates clinical documentation, ensuring compliance and saving hours of administrative work each week. It can also be used as a standalone product for practices transitioning to Lupa’s full system.
-
Pet Parent Interfaces: Dedicated apps and portals designed to improve the experience for pet owners, enabling easy booking, payments, and communication with veterinary clinics.
Other features include standardized templates, AI-enabled data migration, and automation for both clinical and non-clinical workflows. The system is designed to be easy to adopt, with a learning curve reportedly 20 times shorter than traditional practice management software.
Lupa’s platform enables clinics to save up to 10 hours per week on administrative tasks, freeing up veterinarians to focus on patient care. The AI Co-Pilot also helps streamline diagnostics by providing real-time suggestions based on consultations, while always leaving final decisions to the veterinarian.
Lupa has already partnered with Vetsure, a leading UK veterinary group, and onboarded several clinics. The platform has been recognized as the #1 Best New Veterinary Practice Management System in the State of the PMS Report. The company plans to use the funding to grow its user base and expand its product offerings to create an integrated ecosystem for veterinary professionals and pet owners.
